Creating the menu arrays and global color values

January 19, 1999

Creating the menu arrays and global color values.
<script src="menus.js"></script>
<script language="JavaScript1.2">

<!--these variables control color components of the menus-->
<!--menuBGCOLOR	: background color of menu items-->
<!--menuTEXT	: text color of menu items-->
<!--headBGCOLOR	: background color of headline -->
<!--headTEXT	: text color of headline -->
<!--menuHIGH	: highlight color when passing over a menu item -->
menuBGCOLOR	= "#FFFFFF";
menuTEXT   	= "#000000";
headBGCOLOR	= "#E1E197";
headTEXT   	= "#4B4B16";
menuHIGH   	= "#f5f5dc";
<!--end of color modifications-->

Remember that the file menus.js creates the arrays of links for each menu topic. The first line of this code block calls in this file and thus the menu arrays are created. The remaining lines of code in this block have been designed to easily change the color aesthetics of the menus, should the programmer or client desire. By assigning the color values used in the menus to these variables it is a quick and easy process to make global color changes which will impact all of the menus. The compromise of this approach is that one cannot easily alter the colors of a single menu independent of the other menus.
