Next I prepped a stage for my model, using a safety pin poked through
an empty tealight candle to ensure that the model would rotate around
a static axis. I pinned the model to the paper in the center of the
20-point star and began snapping photos from a tripod-mounted camera.
Notice that the paper is white (duh) and the rest of the background is
flat and dark.
The most important things to consider for background are:
The surfaces must be colors that are sufficiently different
from what you are photographing.
The surfaces should have a plain texture that will not
reflect a lot of different colors (like highlights from a very
smooth surface).
Uniform black is probably the best, but I was too lazy to get
up from my desk to go looking for materials.
These factors help you in the next step, which is editing the 20
individual images to prepare them for Flash.
