For those who are hesitant to spend several hundred dollars for a
top-notch photo editor and a top of the line drawing program,
there is an easier and cheaper way to get many of the same
results.
|
Pierresoft's Adesign 1.01 is a program that provides more than
the basics that come with each type of program, and it does so
for only $69.
Does that mean that it is equivalent to
Photoshop or
CorelDraw?
No, but it does mean that some of those features are available,
and the financial savings are substantial.
Adesign has a clean and easy to understand interface similar to
many other programs of this sort, an advantage to first-time
users who need to be productive right away.
Each of the tools along the left side of the screen offers a
variety of options, and the selection tools provide several
choices for users to pick, including lasso, polygon, elliptic,
and magic wand.
Adesign offers antialiased results, gradients, smooth text,
layers, 2D and 3D effects, a number of photo retouching effects,
and vector tools. In total, it is a pretty decent package for the
price.
The screenshot at the top shows the program's grid feature and
the layering results used with opacity.
Adesign can read layers from Photoshop .PSD files and supports 28
file formats, including all those common on the Internet. Its
unlimited undo feature is handy.
Users can open files or acquire them from a scanner or camera. It
allows them to easily determine image output size and, as shown
in the graphic on the right, does a great job of automatically
optimizing graphics, too, giving the user the option of the size and
format to save.
Perhaps the first step most users will make will be to open the
image adjustment menu, where they can choose contrast,
brightness, color balance, hue, and saturation. It is there they
can also invert photos.
Deformation tools included are smudge, grow, shrink, twirl.
Adesign comes with an assortment of blurs as well as rendering,
convolution, sharpening, lighting, and texturization effects.
Vector tools allow users to define paths with bezier curves and
use fairly simple drawing tools. Users can also use coordinates
and transform graphics with skew, perspective, distort, scale,
and rotate tools.
Adesign offers advanced color picking features that allow users
to select either Adesign's or Windows' colors from the
preferences menu.
Users can have Adesign act as the default image editor for most
file formats. The program, which can use either English or French
languages, includes 27 fonts.
Layers are about as easy to use in Adesign as any we've seen, and
moving them into different positions, deleting layers, or adding
depth through layers is a snap.
Adesign is definitely worth the price, and it is a program that
can provide features that may ordinarily cost much more. It's
definitely worth a look for users of just about any skill level.
